“I never imagined that I would be smiling SO much on the day of my c-section.” These are the words I saw pouring from this mama’s smile over and over on the day her baby boy was born. Her joy was palatable. Her care was outstanding. This is one of the most enchanting births I have ever had the privilege of capturing. When I think of empowered birth, this is the first story that comes to mind.Read More
Hajir and her husband Zaki, along with their daughter Rubah, are immigrants from Iraq. This being their first baby born in the US, many of the processes of a hospital birth here were new to the family, but Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge was great about making sure that they understood everything that they needed to in order to make the best decisions for mother and baby.
Birth Affirmations are known for bringing us “warm fuzzy feelings.” But what if I told you that they could actually be emotionally scarring? That there are healthy affirmations and damaging ones?
So many of these phrases sound pretty and even look pretty when displayed with cute graphics. We use them to decorate our birth space and to give us something to focus on during labor. We study them during our pregnancy, we memorize them and have our doulas softly speak our favorites when we’re laboring away.
But are these affirmations the ones we really NEED to hear, or are they the ones we WANT to hear?
These are the words my client, Katie spoke as she told her birth story, Birthing Bohanan. I love how her faith has carried her through. She was so courageous throughout her entire labor and called upon her God to carry her through it. It was an absolute honor to support her and photograph the birth of her beautiful son.Read More
I did a LOT of research and found out not only the risks of a vba2c (vaginal birth after two cesareans) but also the risks they don’t tell you about repeat cesarean sections..the info that was never provided to me by my first two care providers for this pregnancy. Once I felt confident that I wanted to attempt a vba2c I had to find my team...I started by asking Trav, "what would you say if I told you I wanted to try for a vba2c?" His response honestly surprised me when he said, "I think you should do it if thats what you want because I know how important it is for you" (love this man!)Read More

Let me preface this article by saying I gained two new friends the day I photographed this C-Section, April and her baby, Virgil. It was a wonderful occasion where people were brought together through a love of Photography. With her permission, I want to share April’s birth story. The moment that I knew a photograph was more than just pretty artwork for the wall was a moment I’ll never forget. It was a place I’d choose to never be in again if I had the choice. As I sat at the funeral of a young mother, who happened to be a client that turned into a friend; the photograph I took just 4 years prior, of her holding her newborn was displayed in front of her casket. Just a week before her funeral we were planning out her next photo session and just like that she was gone.Read More
